REVIEW ON RELEASE THE POWER LP

Oh, yes! Finally we've made it: we the V8 camp (Volko, Migu and Prohypnol) proudly present our much anticipated 'Release The Power' album. The production took about one year; two (or three) deadlines must have been cancelled but now it's Yours! Let's talk about the tunes to get more information about that shit the so-called grindhouse-bass.

V8 - INTRO

Migu: "It was fun to make this intro, which consists of two types of distorted, and effected white noises filled with a huge collection of favourite samples. You can find out which movies we've got those samples from."

V8 - RELEASE THE POWER

Migu: "THE track. I think it is one of the most important tracks on the album. I remember Volko sent me the 'original' version and I made a long overview which gives the idea to work together on the new version obviously."

Volko: "We started it with Prohypnol and than we couldn't decide to make a techno or a dnb tune. This is one of the oldest tunes what were put on the album that's why it was fucking hard to make the sound throughout good because when we reworked it, the mixdown was ready, Migu and I just changed the structure and length."

Migu: "Yepp, we've added more elements and variations but, removed some parts which were too much and disturbed the concept."

Volko: "When we recorded it with Kowas I just said: Hell I don't want to fuck with the mixdown 'cos I don't really remember what the heck I've done with those vst-s so let's add some hardwares and finish it."

Prohypnol: "This is the tune that we had to make, it was our calling I think, luv it because we’ve put a lot of german-techno signs in it, and of course some kind of hard-style drum and bass, and this u-turn became one of my favourites. When i’m listening to it, I feel that my speakers are releasing the power...!"

V8 - THROUGH THE WALLS

Volko: "This tune has the most multiple variations and versions on my computer!"

Migu: "And on mine too. I can't remember how many times Volko reworked 'Through The Walls' and not only its mixdown, but the whole concept."

Volko: "This is also a collab with Prohypnol, but for putting it on the LP I found it too weak, so I reworked it with Migu first."

Migu: "Really? I can't remember. LOL"

Volko: "And again and again and again. The tune you hear on the LP is the version that was done two minutes before recording."

Migu: "And do not forget about the speech. Who's that? LOL"

Prohypnol: "No one knows about that speech, but this is another of my favourite tracks, wherefore the pumping, and the energy. It makes you to get up and move or something. I liked the first version too, but I must say, this version is much better due to some of those minor changes."

V8 - IRONMEN! feat. E.T.

Volko: "This is a memento of a legendary sporting game called Ironmen! E.T. played the guitar and I made the drums and effects and we recorded some vocal samples with microphone."

E.T.: "That was almost the first time I have listened to music like that, but that one inspired me! Usually I like the super black metal type of music... hehe, but something was in this drum theme that was really hard, sick, head banging shit. That was the beginning of it all..."

Volko: "The legendary sport is about drinking as much as we can, and then it's all about who can reach the further location that we've planned before. It's also a memento for the good old times of our life when we felt like a (of course stone drunk) hero and this tune is for the big and sexy cars in the US raw powered and honest horsepowers fuck yeah! True forces!"

Prohypnol: "True forces yeah and some evil thoughts which makes me feel another way of life; essence of the mean!"

V8 - LIP SERVICE

Volko: "It's a very neaty and angry tune that's what Code Blue said when I sent it to him. He was right. I made it for all the people who has a second face behind their smiles. Fuck those two-faced people, give them a bitch-slap! An Archibald style one!"

V8 - INTERLUDE and V8 - ENGINE

Volko: "This tune didn't exist when we found out its title! It wasn't part of the tracklisting, but I thought 'No Change Without Passion' (the original track on this place) was so crappy."

Migu: "We decided to rework 'No Change Without Passion', we've already had the ideas."

Volko: "But I didn't like the sound, so i told You that this tune needed more work, so I didn't really want it to be released, and what if we'd replaced it. Then You said 'Ok then we'll write another one'."

Migu: "And next weekend I went to Your place and, we put this tune together."

Volko: "It features real V8 engine sounds (of a '69 mustang fastback)."

Migu: "I was getting really excited when we began to work on this tune so I began thinking on other samples. And there is a movie called Deathproof You know..."

Prohypnol: "It was a good idea to replace 'No Change Without Passion' and work on this. Nice gimmick guys, and WOW: the symphony of a V8 block!"

V8 - BERZERK

Migu: "Our second collaboration with Volko. Re-toughts of the unfinished trash-track (it means it wouldn't be finished) 'Darkseekers' by Volko. When I heard the melody we decided to re-work and finish this one. That was great to glitch the melody we've got some orchestra-kind thing. We were surprised. The track itself is very agressive and primitive, which refers to the title: Berzerk. Speech samples were taken from the original Highlander - it is Kurgan, one of my favourite movie antagonist. He is the real motherfucker!"

Volko: "That needs no more words. This tune absolutely shows that our works are far out of bounds. We are in love with both hardcore-techno, and kinda dark sounding. I feel some extra wave of flow when working with Migu, he is totally crazy."

V8 - DEFILER feat. E.T.

Migu: "The first track what we've collaborated on. We were absolutely excited to work together, so that was the reason mainly that we've finished it in three days. The beta version was played on a Need4Speed gig right after Current Value."

Volko: "That was the evening when we met to work all night and finish the stuff, but around 10 o'clock Migu got a phonecall that started like this: oh I'm sorry to disturb you selecting vinyls for tonight... then after finishing the call he asked me: This CV gig is tonight? and then I said I think yeah, but I'm not sure about what date is today"

Migu: "We were in a hurry, but able to work out a beta stuff. Then we got a cab. But first we went to the wrong venue..."

Volko: "The funniest thing that we looked on the internet, where the heck is the place where the party is. hahahhhaaa nice1 guys that's epic :) Nevermind. Next night we just finished the tune."

Migu: "Oh and the speech is taken from the game Diablo-Hellfire. That's one of my favourite computer games of all times (with the original Alone In the Dark and Wolf3D)"

Volko: "Defiler is a nice and fluffy caracter, it was good enough to put him into our tune :) and of course E.T. said he got sum ideas about the tune so his riffs are also in it. Nowadays I mentioned the LP, and he absolutely had no clue about this tune...no worries dude :)"

V8 - BARLANG

Migu: "'Barlang' is also an important track. This was the first one what was written by all the three grindhouse-bassers. Barlang was the worktitle of the project, then I renamed the track to the 'Caves Of Abnormality', then we changed it back to 'Barlang'."

Volko: "This is a strange tune because my remix was done before the original was ready, it was a live recorded stuff, so I couldn't make it again thats why it wouldn't be released. I played that version at some partys, and in online mixes. The V8 version has been created approximately a year ago, all of us changed it many times. Yeah the title of it, Prohypnol and me wanted to name it 'Barlang'. It's a Hungarian word (it means 'Cave') and hell we are Hungarians and it's a Hungarian LP so it's 'Barlang' and that's it! :)"

Migu: "Additional note that the track was inspired by the movie 'Descent' which is one of the best gore movies of nowadays (it's Hungarian title was 'Barlang' so You might understand now why that title had been chosen)."

Prohypnol: "I love the Hungarian title :D it's why it feels more like V8 productions I think. If you don’t know what to decide, just listen to Barlang and you'll know ’Which way’ you should take."

V8 - NO REASONING POWER feat. Ekaros

Migu: "That's a kind of experiment. I've made this one for fun proving that the succesful use of samples taken from movies can be good (only these samples were used, nothing else! - cinestep?). I didn't want to make a whole track. The two minutes long preview was sent to Ekaros who felt in love with the sound and told me to finish it. The finished version was about seven minutes with a 135 bpm part (tribute to the dubsteppish Ekaros) and with Johnny Cash at the end. Those parts were cut out by Ekaros when he made some additions - I was really surprised when he suggested to remove the dubstep part."

Ekaros: "One day Migu told me he started making music that was the first shock to me... a guy with such a dark style in selecting music can't do wrong in producing, I was wondering why he didn't started earlier. Even so I was surprised, my face dropped! He sent me a really good tune that had nothing to criticise in quality. That's a remarkable fact when you know he just started writing music... 'No Reasoning Power' was made for fun. But it's not that kind of funny tune at all! Its elements were collected from his favourite horror movies, what assures; it can't be a lullaby! and it's fucking not a lullaby! I joined to the project at the very end, adding the basses and did some little changes."

V8 - OUTRO

Volko: "Also a Hungarian thing. It's a cut from the hillarious tv show South Park. It's kind of funny 'ars poetica'. It tells what we want to do with our music and states what we truly think about most of the people. This kind of music industry (I hate these words) is so polluted and so full of dishonest and bored sounds that V8 had to be born. Our music is really a kind of thrash and sounds. Rude, but let me quote one of my best mates, Dj Kowas: This is an ugly genre. You don't need to make it seem nicer We had so fucking much work with these tunes, and our way of thinking is absolutely honest: We don't give a fuck about who likes or dislikes our music. This is our shit and if You don't like it, go fuck Yourself...!"

Migu: "Period."

PROFANE JUNGLE PRODUCTIONS - DEADSOUNDZ

Volko: "'Deadsoundz' is one of my first tunes. This tune is the oldest one on the LP. The vocal is performed by my sister, Mariann and the riffs are done by Thomas Kako, the other guitarist from the ex-metalband, Deflector. The drums and bass were driven through a Roland SP808's limiter in Dj Kowas's studio about 4years ago. The guitar was played on it live afterwards at Gödöllő and the whole stuff was finally recorded in the collage-room of Dj Globe. Profane Jungle Productions was also a formation that consisted of E.T., Thomas the guitarists and a vocalist, Burtold and me. We planned to make a hybrid sound between metal and electronic industrial sounds. After making two tunes everyone had gone in different directions so I also stoped making tunes under this name."

OVERALL

Volko: "The whole sound is about analog and digital distortion mixed together. All of the tunes have been performed in 3 phases, one after another. The tunes and the sound itself were made by V8, mixdowns were made in Housey Hawk's Studios by Volko and Dj Kowas and finally tunes were converted in Gábor Hanuska's Studio (huge respect to Gábor and Dj Kowas!)"

Prohypnol: "First of all I would like to say a nice fuckin’ big up for my mates (Volko, Migu) and a huge Thank You to everybody who ever listened to our tunes (or bought it :D) I’m pretty proud of all the projects of ours, every sound we’ve made, and I cannot imagine a better crew for myself which is working like this, like one man. So I thank you all again, and I hope this will go on and on and on and on until the engine stops!"

Migu: "To be honest I am really proud of the end-product. Volko and Prohypnol has already said, but I must repeat. We had lot's of work with this stuff including the production, the sound, the artwork, etc. And finally I'll tell You that this drum'n'bass-jungle-hardcore-techno-halfstep-rock-fuckknows stuff is the sampler of our upcoming label named Project:V8 focusing on our own productions and collaborations."
